TRYOUTS

Tryouts for the 2016-2017 team will be held at the University of Washington's IMA facility on October 8th and 9th! Any student wishing to audition: Please email theuwdawgsquad@gmail.com with your full name to express interest in audition so that we can add you to the audition roster for the fall. We look forward to meeting next year's team!

GOAL

The goal of the UW Dawg Squad is to promote husky pride through dance and compete at a collegiate level. Each member has the opportunity to represent the University of Washington in a positive light. It is each dancer’s responsibility to put forth their best foot at all engagements and maintain a level of excellence and professionalism throughout the year.

REQUIREMENTS

All dance team members must be registered students with a valid Husky Card and at least 16 years of age or older. A membership waiver and release card for each member must be on file in the sports office before participation is allowed. These will be handed out on the first day of practice.

EXPECTED SKILLS

The UW Dawg Squad is an exclusively hip-hop competition season. Even if hip-hop is not your strongest style we still encourage you to audition. Tumbling or breakdancing skills are also useful such as handstands, handsprings, kipups, and stalls. Above all, dancers need to be energetic and have great stage presence as well as a hard working ethic.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

The team participates in a variety of performances throughout the year. In addition to the USA National Collegiate Championship in Anaheim, California and our other competitions, past performances have included basketball and volleyball game halftimes, the Mr. and Miss Greek competitions, DanceOn music video challenge and the Dance Students Association’s Influx shows.

TEAM AND MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

Please see the document below for all team membership expectations including financial commitment, fitness and strength requirements, as well as a detailed list of expected skills at tryouts.
